About Me
My name is Johan and I live in Uppland, South-Eastern Sweden, where I also was born in the mid-1960s. Have lived there my whole life, except for a few years around the Millennium when I was studying in the USA.
My interest in old cars started when my brother in the early 2000's bought an old two-stroke SAAB 96 from 1961. It was in a fairly good original condition, but needed some minor restoration. We started together restoring the old SAAB, and thanks to him and his car, my interest in classic cars started. The reason I choose Mercedes-Benz where just a mere coincidence. In spring 2002, I found on the Internet an old tucked away "Fintail" Mercedes-Benz for sale. The owner had put it away in a barn since 1979, and wanted now to get rid of it. It is the same car I have described on this page. It was during the restoration of that car, that I discovered how well build and thought-out the German design was. And since then, the only car for me is Mercedes-Benz. The gray Fintail was a very nice car in every way and for nearly 10 years of my life - my eyestone, but is now sold to another MB enthusiast in Sweden.
I have the privilege to have access to my own workshop and therefore I have been able to make most of the restoration work myself. After the restoration of the Fin tail, I have also modified the workshop and are now able to paint the cars myself.
I have since my first Mercedes-Benz, owned various models of these cars. Among others, a white 200D (W123) 1985, a Dallas red 350SL (R107) 1972, a silver colored C180 combi (S201) 2000, a navy blue 240D/8 (W115) 1970, a turquoise 180c Ponton (W120) 1962, a black C200 CDI (S203) 2004, a black B-class B170 NGT (W245) 2009, a silver colored E220 CDI combi (W211) 2009. During 2014 to 2017 I own a 2012 C220 CDI (S204). My daily driver is currently a new black C200 CDI (S205) from 2017 with a nice interior. My summer car is since the spring of 2011, an azurit blue metallic E220 Cabriolet (A124) from 1995.
Works for living as a Service Engineer at Arlanda Airport, Stockholm, but I am also a trained pilot. Has previously worked as a flight instructor and charter pilot of small aircraft in the USA, and during the summer of 2008 I flew geophysical surveying flights in a Shrike Commander 500S for the Swedish Geological Survey of Sweden (SGU) in cooperation with Wermlandsflyg AB. The exciting employment as a low-flying pilot is described on my site FlyLow. I am also employed at Arlanda Airport as simulator pilot. The work means that I together with Air Traffic Controllers at the ATCC (Air Traffic Control Center) flies in the simulator so that they can safely exercise different critical situations that may occur in the sky.
Has since summer 2013 extended my pages with a weather page (Swedish). This page presents the weather in Märsta and the weather data is collected using my weather station.
